# GitHub Copilot adoption
The **GitHub Copilot adoption** report measures daily, weekly, and monthly adoption of GitHub Copilot as well as feature utilization across your organization.

This report helps teams:

- **Track rollout progress** — Measure adoption rates across your organization as you roll out GitHub Copilot to more teams.
- **Identify power users and champions** — Find developers who are getting the most value from GitHub Copilot and can help others adopt best practices.
- **Optimize license spend** — Spot unused licenses that can be reallocated or followed up on.
- **Understand feature utilization** — See which GitHub Copilot features are being used most and where there may be opportunities for deeper adoption.

> Note: GitHub Copilot adoption is only available when [GitHub](https://docs.getdx.com/connectors/github/) is connected to DX.

## Adoption

The **Adoption** tab displays adoption trends over time and provides a breakdown by team.

- **Active contributors** — Adoption is measured as the percentage (or total count) of contributors actively using GitHub Copilot. Toggle between **Percent** and **Total** views, and switch between two population scopes:
  - _Contributors_ — DX users assigned to a team
  - _Licensees_ — GitHub Copilot license holders

- **DAU, WAU, MAU** — Use the activity period dropdown to view adoption at different cadences:
  - _Daily active users (DAU)_ — Active at least once per day
  - _Weekly active users (WAU)_ — Active at least once per week
  - _Monthly active users (MAU)_ — Active at least once per month

- **Team breakdown** — A table below the main chart shows adoption metrics by team. Expand teams to see individual contributor activity. Supports sorting, date filtering, and CSV export.

## Usage

The **Usage** tab provides detailed insights into how GitHub Copilot is being utilized.

> Note: The Usage tab is available only when [GitHub Copilot Metrics](https://docs.getdx.com/connectors/github-copilot-metrics/) is connected to DX. If you have connected GitHub Copilot Metrics but the Usage tab does not display data, please contact your DX account representative.

- **Acceptance rate** — Tracks how often AI suggestions are accepted, with separate views for **Chat** and **Completion**:
  - _Chat_ — Total acceptances divided by total suggestions while using the chat feature (panel or inline)
  - _Completion_ — Total acceptances divided by total suggestions while using auto-completion

- **Lines of code** — Shows lines of code generated by GitHub Copilot with two views:
  - _By additions/deletions_ — Lines added and removed as a stacked bar chart
  - _By feature_ — Lines broken down by Agent, Chat, and Completion features

- **Language usage** — Shows the top 5 programming languages by total suggestions, along with their acceptance rates.

- **Model usage** — Shows which AI models are being used most frequently. Usage is calculated as the total lines of code added and deleted by the model.

- **Breakdowns** — A per-team table showing chat acceptance rate, completion acceptance rate, lines of code, and top model.

## Power users

The **Power users** tab identifies the users with the most engagement across your organization. Displays a table sorted by activity within the selected time period, showing name, login, and days active. Use filters to narrow results (up to 500 users shown).

## Unused licenses

The **Unused licenses** tab shows licenses that have not been used within the selected time period. Displays name, login, and last active date. Useful for identifying reallocation opportunities or following up with inactive users (up to 500 users shown).
