# Claude Code adoption
The **Claude Code adoption** report measures daily, weekly, and monthly adoption of Claude Code as well as feature utilization across your organization. Metrics are available for users of Claude Code via Claude.ai for Enterprise and Claude Code via the Anthropic Console.

This report helps teams:

- **Track rollout progress** — Measure adoption rates across your organization as you roll out Claude Code to more teams.
- **Identify power users and champions** — Find developers who are getting the most value from Claude Code and can help others adopt best practices.
- **Optimize license spend** — Spot unused licenses that can be reallocated or followed up on.
- **Understand feature utilization** — See which Claude Code tools are being used most and where there may be opportunities for deeper adoption.

## Adoption

The **Adoption** tab displays adoption trends over time and provides a breakdown by team.

- **Active contributors** — Adoption is measured as the percentage (or total count) of contributors actively using Claude Code. Toggle between **Percent** and **Total** views, and switch between two population scopes:
  - _Contributors_ — DX users assigned to a team
  - _Licensees_ — Claude Code license holders

- **DAU, WAU, MAU** — Use the activity period dropdown to view adoption at different cadences.

- **Team breakdown** — A table below the main chart shows adoption metrics by team.

### Active contributor calculation

DX calculates active contributors based on the presence of any activity in the API response. If a user appears in the Claude Code usage report with any metric greater than zero (such as lines of code added or removed), they are considered active for that day.

You may observe that active user numbers in DX are higher than those reported in the Anthropic Console. This is because the Anthropic Console only counts users with at least one new session (`num_sessions > 0`) for the day. Since session counts only increment at startup, users with multi-day sessions may have 0 sessions on subsequent days despite significant coding activity. DX captures this activity to provide a more comprehensive view of engagement.

## Usage

The **Usage** tab provides detailed insights into how Claude Code is being utilized.

- **Acceptance rate** — Tracks how often AI suggestions are accepted. Calculated as total accepted lines of code divided by total suggested lines of code.

- **Estimated spend** — Shows the estimated cost of Claude Code usage over time. Toggle between **Total** spend and a **By model** breakdown to see costs per AI model.

- **Lines of code** — Shows lines of code added and removed by Claude Code as a stacked bar chart over time.

- **Model usage** — Shows which AI models are being used most frequently as a stacked bar chart over time.

- **Tool usage** — Shows how developers are using different Claude Code tools:
  - _Existing file edits_ — Edit and Multi-Edit tools
  - _New files_ — Write tool
  - _Jupyter notebook edits_ — Notebook Edit tool

- **Breakdowns** — A per-team table showing acceptance rate, estimated spend, lines of code, and top model.

## Power users

The **Power users** tab identifies the most active Claude Code users across your organization. It displays a table sorted by **Days active** within the selected time period, showing name, login, and days active. Use filters to narrow results (up to 500 users shown).

## Unused licenses

The **Unused licenses** tab shows licenses that have not been used within the selected time period and displays name, login, and last active date. It is useful for identifying reallocation opportunities or following up with inactive users (up to 500 users shown).
