# Setting AI adoption dates
DX has three user properties for tracking AI adoption over time that are required for the "Before vs after" and "Trend correlations" views in the [AI impact report](https://docs.getdx.com/reports/ai-impact/):

- `ailightadoptiondate`
- `aimoderateadoptiondate`
- `aiheavyadoptiondate`

Populating these properties is the customer's responsibility. Due to the number of fragmented AI tools and current availability of telemetry data through vendor APIs, DX cannot automatically set these properties. The date format is `YYYY/MM/DD`.

## How to get this data

Getting this data may be difficult or unfeasible for certain organizations depending on the specific vendor tools and internal data available.

- **From Data Cloud data:** Most AI tool APIs only provide 30-90 days of historical user level metrics. Therefore, you may or may not have enough data in DX to backfill historical adoption dates.
- **From your AI tool vendor:** It may be possible to obtain this data by submitting a request to your vendor for usage levels over time, broken down by user.
- **From internal data:** Your organization may have its own internal data on AI tool rollouts that may be used for this purpose.
- **From self-reported data:** DX studies or manual interviews can be used to collect historical data points.
