# Legacy GitHub Copilot API migration
The Usage tab in the [GitHub Copilot adoption report](https://app.getdx.com/report/github-copilot-adoption) is being upgraded due to GitHub deprecating the APIs that power it.

### Why is this happening?

GitHub is [closing down its legacy Copilot metrics APIs](https://github.blog/changelog/2026-01-29-closing-down-notice-of-legacy-copilot-metrics-apis/) as part of a transition to newer usage metrics endpoints. The legacy Copilot Metrics API — which provides aggregated usage data such as acceptance rates, language breakdowns, and model usage - is being discontinued on **April 2nd, 2026**.

The [replacement Copilot usage metrics APIs](https://docs.github.com/en/enterprise-cloud@latest/rest/copilot/copilot-usage-metrics?apiVersion=2022-11-28) are available to all organizations and provide improved usage tracking.

### How do I switch to the new APIs?

**If you use the [GitHub Copilot Metrics connector](https://docs.getdx.com/connectors/github-copilot-metrics/)**: There is no change. All associated data will continue to be available for your organization, as the enterprise connector already uses the new APIs.

**If you do not use the GitHub Copilot Metrics connector**: You can either create a standalone [GitHub Copilot Metrics](https://docs.getdx.com/connectors/github-copilot-metrics/) connector (org-level) for Copilot-only data, or add the "Organization Copilot metrics (read)" permission to your existing [GitHub](https://docs.getdx.com/connectors/github/) connector to collect Copilot metrics through it.

In both cases, ensure that your [Copilot metrics API access policy](https://docs.github.com/en/copilot/rolling-out-github-copilot-at-scale/analyzing-usage-over-time-with-the-copilot-metrics-api#prerequisites) is set to [**Enabled everywhere**](https://docs.github.com/en/enterprise-cloud@latest/rest/copilot/copilot-usage-metrics?apiVersion=2022-11-28). Without this policy enabled, DX will not be able to import your Copilot data.

### What happens to my existing data?

No data is being deleted. All legacy usage data that was previously collected will remain in DX and is accessible via [Data Studio](https://docs.getdx.com/data-studio).
