# How do team moves and group moves affect snapshot data?
Team moves and group moves behave differently in DX. Team moves update the formal hierarchy used for snapshot ownership and rollups. Group moves update flexible reporting cohorts and do not reassign snapshot teams.

## Team moves

Changes to team structure during a live snapshot or during the post-snapshot freeze window are applied to that snapshot period.

- During a live snapshot, team updates affect the current snapshot.
- During the freeze window after a snapshot (typically 2-3 weeks), additional team changes can still be applied.
- After the freeze window closes, historical reporting depends on your workspace setup. In workspaces that use [Versioned Teams](https://docs.getdx.com/knowledgebase/how-do-versioned-teams-work/), historical attribution stays tied to the prior team structure. In workspaces that do not use Versioned Teams, reports use current team structure, so historical work can shift to a new team.

For API-managed imports, see [Team hierarchies](https://docs.getdx.com/team-hierarchies/) and [orgfiles.teamHierarchy.process](https://docs.getdx.com/webapi/methods/orgfiles.teamHierarchy.process/).

## Group moves

Groups are flexible collections for reporting and coordination. Changing group membership does not reassign a user between DX teams.

- Group changes do not change snapshot team ownership.
- Group changes do not change team hierarchy structure.
- Group changes remain useful for cross-team filtering and analysis.

For group management workflows, see [Organization](https://docs.getdx.com/organization/#groups).
