# What is the difference between AI Code Insights and connectors?
AI Code Insights and DX connectors provide complementary data. Most organizations use both.

## AI Code Insights (daemon)

The daemon runs on developer machines and provides:

- **Code attribution:** What percentage of committed code is AI-generated, broken down by team, repository, and agent.
- **Session transcripts:** Full message text from supported agents, scrubbed for secrets and PII.
- **Agent Experience scoring:** Per-session evaluation of agent friction and effectiveness.
- **AI dollar impact:** Estimated dollar value of AI agent usage based on code attribution and efficiency data.

Requires the daemon to be [installed](https://docs.getdx.com/ai-code-insights/installation/) on developer machines.

## Connectors

Connectors pull data from the provider's API and provide:

- **Adoption rates:** How many developers are actively using each agent.
- **Usage bands:** Distribution of usage across the organization.
- **Token consumption:** Input, output, and cache token counts per session.
- **Billing data:** Spend and cost data from the provider.

Does not require the daemon. Configured under **Admin** -> **Connections**.
